My New Years resolution was not to buy any books this year. I broke that resolution and got a book this month. I just happened to be reading The Metro newspaper, when I saw it had an interview with Duncan Bannatyne, which mentioned his soon to be released book "How to be smart with your money". I knew I had to buy that book as soon as it was released!
I have big respect for Duncan Bannatyne, and I think it is wonderful that someone with so much money will happily share his strategies with the rest of us (for a small fee). There are so many scammers out there charging thousands of pounds for information on how to be rich, yet here is one of the richest men in Britain who is giving financial advice for less than a tenner.
"How to be smart with your money" is the latest book by Duncan Bannatyne. You can buy it from a high street shop for £13, or for £9.09 on Amazon. You can guess which option I took!
In this book, Duncan Bannatyne takes a look at the finance world through the eyes of an everyday person. He gives his advice on what he would do if he was in the position of the average wage earner in the United Kingdom. He says there are basic skills we all can learn to be better with money, whether you are worth £3 pounds or £310m. The book is split into 6 areas: 1)The theory of money - we are encouraged to think logically about our money and take control of our own finances. 2) Getting more money - How to raise your earnings and create more wealth. 3) Spending - All about budgeting and how to select a good buy. 4) Borrowing money - How to use debt to your advantage, and how to ensure you are not overcharged by lenders. 5) Saving and investing - The importance of saving and how to invest in property, stocks and pensions. 6) The plan - Have a plan for your financial life, and stick to it.
When I first read this book I was worried that Duncan might be too rich to relate to the problems and issues faced by the common man. In fact, he has researched very extensively into everyday finance, and names many relevant and up to date websites and sources. Clearly he has really given this book a lot of thought and applied his financial mind to the problem of how we can all be better off with our money.
Duncan was poor once upon a time. He has now learned the skills of being rich, and through this book, he is passing those skills on. It is clear that he lives by the techniques which he recommends. If you want to be smart with your money, this is the book to read.
