The Sunday Times Rich List was published last month. It is a magazine supplement released every year. It's an interesting read, and gives factual research about the richest people in Britain and where their wealth comes from.
This years edition reflected the harsh reality of the credit crunch and the current economic downturn. It shows that rich people really are losing money. In spite of this, they are still rich.
The Rich List quotes: "All regions have been hit. Nobody is immune, whatever their status". Wealth, is a roller coaster ride of making money, losing some money, making money, etc but as long as you keep seeking wealth, you will always end up on top.
The total wealth of the top 1000 in the UK went down by 33%! That's an incredible decimation of wealth. Lakshmi Mittal the richest man the UK lost 17bn. His wealth actually went down by 61%, but guess what, he is still the richest man in the UK. When you are super rich, even losing a significant amount of money cannot stop you from economic superiority, as Mittal demonstrates.
The bigger you are, the harder you fall, and the more wealth you have the more you stand to lose when things go badly. In spite of this, a rich person can still remain far richer than their peers, so it demonstrates that losing money is not something to worry about. It's not pleasant, but its not the end of the world.
The economy is affecting everybody, so never believe anybody who says they never lose money, or that they have a failsafe get rich quick scheme. Looking at The Rich List is a good way to gain more knowledge about wealth in Britain. You can look at the online version here.
