Planning Permission and Secrets of The Millionaire Mind

Planning Permission:

A house opposite where I live has finally been knocked down to make way for a new development. It sits on a large plot of land and has now been unoccupied for over 2 years. I looked at the plans on-line and it turns out that the developer is planning to build 5 x 2 bedroom flats and a 3 bedroom house. Looking at the planning application, shows that he was held up many times, due to complaints from residents.

The complaints, to me, seemed petty and trivial, for example there were objections about the colour of the window frames, and I'm glad he won planning permission in the end. The developer did not have an easy ride to get to this stage, and it shows that any plan will be beset by the uncertainty of life, once it is started. The developer is getting on with building and selling properties, and it is clear that the property market will not be stagnant forever. I'm starting to notice a lot of other big property developments around my area being worked on by builders.

When I was checking the development site online, I also checked possible asking price values of the finished units on Rightmove.com (240k for 2br flat), compared to similar properties in the same area sold by Allsops Auctioneers (140k for 2br flat). It turns out that similar auctioned properties have recently been sold for 100k less, so the property market is starting to look attractive again. For now, I will continue to hold off until next year before I even consider expanding my property portfolio, as my gut feeling (based on my own research) is that now is not the time to start buying, and I will lose nothing by waiting for a bit longer. My knowledge and financial resources will increase between this time, so no need to dive in yet.

It's amazing how much information is available on the internet, and by checking out the development, I learned which web sites to go to for information on housing, and increased my knowledge of how the planning permission process works.

Interim book review of: Secrets of The Millionaire Mind

I'm currently reading Secrets of The Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker. There are some good YouTube videos of T Harv Eker. The book is currently very impressive and I'm almost half way through it. It goes into the mindset of being wealthy. He says we all have a mental financial blueprint which we must set to high, or we will never be able to accept riches into our lives.

My only criticism is that he frequently pitches for his wealth creation seminars throughout the book. This implies that the information in the book is not good enough, and needs to be expanded. This book appears to almost be a classic, sullied only by this shameless pitching. I think the information in the book is great stuff so far. I'm currently on the bit where he talks about his “Ready, FIRE, aim”, principle which says we must make decisions quickly, as we can never have time to find out all the information beforehand.

I've just done a quick internet search on T Harv Eker and he is currently producing more and more teaching materials and seminars. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but for me, his incessant pitching spoils the integrity and uniqueness of this book.
