I got a letter from HM Revenue and Customs a few days ago. I contacted the tax office a few months ago, as I wanted to make sure that my tax was correct. For my troubles, I finally get a letter back saying they are giving me formal notice that they are opening an enquiry into my tax return.
So, they are now going to bother to check my return properly, like they should have done in the first place. Apparently they even charge interest on any extra tax that needs to be paid. So if they have miscalculated, I am the one that has to pay for it!
The actor Will Smith had big problems with the tax man when he first started his career, and ended up owing them $2.8m. They responded by taking 70% of his wages from his hit show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The tax man is all powerful (in any country), and so I never play games with him.
I knew this day might come, so I made sure I was already prepared long in advance. I set aside a separate bank account just for tax, and deposited thousands of pounds into it, just in case. I've researched too many stories of people who have been crushed by the tax man, and there is no way I will ever allow that to happen to me.
Let the tax man come for me, I'm ready for him, and I always will be.
