The supermarkets fight back

This month I briefly changed my shopping habits by spending £200 pounds recklessly, in a celebration of finance. I sent £200 of my golden soldiers to the financial graveyard. I shopped in more upmarket supermarkets, and I actually learned some good lessons.

After briefly changing my habits by going into more mainstream supermarkets, I discovered that they are actually beating budget stores like Poundland, on price, for quite a lot of items. They do many goods for 30p or less, and their own brand items can trounce the budget stores.

For example, a 1 litre bottle of mouthwash costs £1 in Poundland, but you can get a 500ml bottle in Sainsbury for £0.48p. I was shocked and amazed by this. If I hadn't changed my tactics, I would never have learnt this lesson.

It goes to show that you will only ever get the best deals if you keep shopping around. It takes a bit more time, but its worth it in the end. Budget stores are good value for money, but the supermarkets are fighting back and you can really stretch your money by researching well, before you buy.

Budget stores such as Poundland have come on the scene, undercutting supermarkets and letting consumers save money. Now, the supermarkets are fighting back with good deals and low prices. This means I get to save even more money.
